City Harvest and the Healthy Neighborhoods Programs

The cofounder of a networking group, the Wall Street CLO Club, Carol Pledger served as a managing director at Goldman Sachs for 13 years. Carol Pledger was a former member of the City Harvest Board.

The first food rescue organization in the world, the New York City-based City Harvest originated in 1982. Every year, the organization collects and distributes more than 500 million pounds of donated food to hundreds of community food programs, especially food pantries and soup kitchens, which often need fresh items the most. Committed to helping the almost 1.5 million residents who are facing hunger, City Harvest focuses on education, food distribution, and other innovative programs throughout the area.

In addition to its food rescue efforts, City Harvest conducts a healthy neighborhoods initiative in communities throughout Washington Heights, South Bronx, Northwest Queens, Bedford Stuyvesant, and Staten Island’s North Shore. For more than 10 years, the organization has strived to relieve food insecurity by working with residents and retailers to increase access to healthy, affordable food. It also provides free activities and nutrition resources to encourage residents to make healthy choices when purchasing and preparing their meals.
